South by Southwest 2024, the music festival portion of which takes place March 11-16, announced its first round of showcasing artists today.
Kicking off with 149 acts from around the globe, the list leads with prominent Venezuelan reggae-pop mixers Rawayana, London post-punk stoics Dry Cleaning, and Brooklyn art-punks BODEGA. Cult-beloved Detroit electronic producer Omar S adds to the bill, alongside the return of always-lively Spanish indie rockers Hinds. Other quick picks: established Boston slack rockers Horse Jumper of Love, Sooper Records co-owner/Chicago multi-instrumentalist Sen Morimoto, and Stockholm Sub Pop signees waterbaby.
Reprising guitar-centric sets from last year’s fest are heavy jangle pop act They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, from Philadelphia, and immersive slowcore quintet Teethe, from Dallas. The Chronicle also enjoyed returning Ecuadorian-Swiss brother duo Hermanos Gutiérrez, touring last year’s El Bueno y el Malo.
Locals on the lineup include Dylan Gossett, El Combo Oscuro, fuvk, Half Dream, Joe King Carrasco, Little Mazarn, Lord Friday the 13th, Mama Duke, Middle Sattre, and West Texas Exiles. Now Atlanta-based act Mamalarky also launched in Austin. As for showcase presenters, Austin-based managers Adult Decisions and the Loyalty Firm make the cut.
