• “Fear and Desire” (Metrograph, New York, Sept. 22): Stanley Kubrick’s long-overlooked debut feature plays in a new 4k restoration, created by Kino Lorber in collaboration with the Library of Congress, that includes material the director had begrudgingly removed back in the ’50s. The story of soldiers trying to escape from behind enemy lines prefigures his later masterpieces like “Paths of Glory” and “Full Metal Jacket.”
