Turn 25 days annual leave into 55 days off work in 2024: Savvy mother reveals how to maximise time off by planning around weekends and bank holidays
A clever hack will get workers 55 days off next year while only taking 25 days of annual leave.
Beth Turbutt-Rogers, 28 – dubbed ‘budgetingmumofficial’ on Instagram – shared a clip detailing how to maximise time off in 2024.
By attaching days off to weekends and bank holidays, workers can get more than seven weeks off.
The hack only works for people who don’t work weekends and are entitled to have their bank holiday off.
Beth, who boasts 144,000 followers on Instagram, wrote: ‘Wouldn’t we all like to have longer periods of time off work?

‘Save this video for later so you can get your 2024 annual leave requests in early’.
EASY EASTER
Let’s start with Easter. Good Friday will roll round on 29 March. Easter Monday is on April 1.
If your workplace closes over weekends and on bank holidays, you can turn this into a 16-day break using just eight days leave. Simply book March 25 – 28, April 2 – 5 off work.
MAKE THE MOST OF MAY
Then in May, you could make another canny holiday move by taking an nine-day holiday for the price of just four days of annual leave.
Booking four days off either side of May bank holidays, which in 2024 fall of 6th and 27th, will give nine days off, inclusive of weekends.
She took to Instagram to preview a video revealing some of the best calendar dates to request off from your boss, and broke the explanation down month by month
SUPER SUMMER BREAK
If this sounds too good to be true…just wait for August, when it gets even better, with a potential nine-day holiday using up just four days of precious leave.
This is how it works. The 24 and 25th August are weekend days. Then, you have the 26 August bank holiday on the Monday. Book off August 27- 30 as annual leave, then you have another weekend.
FESTIVE FUN
Another example she gave fell around the festive period.
Beth suggested taking the 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 December off work.
The sneaky ploy would amount to a total of 12 days off in the month of December 2024.
She concluded by applying the methodology to all weekends and bank holidays in 2024: ’25 annual leave days = 55 days off’ she wrote.
However you’ll have to be quick as the hack is likely to cause a ruckus amongst fast-fingered savvy workers. Consider putting in your annual leave requests now.
